One of the careers available in The Sims Mobile is Culinary Career. This job is related to preparation, cooking and presentation of food in the form of meals.
Culinary Career is available once you unlocked the Market Square. If you selected this career, you'll be the chef and the server of the restaurant. Progressing through this career will unlock some items related to culinary that will give you XP and Tokens everyday.

If you're stuck in restaurant/fashion/doctor, try working at the other area (barista, business, DJ, etc). Tried mine and works fine.

Even changing jobs I still don't have job options ;/

It doesn't seem like he is dressed for work. Leave the area and come back again by going home and pressing the circle around the star in the bottom left menu. If that doesnt work, it may be that your sim has passed away (if you are over level 16, this is likely).

Why is it when I go to work it won’t let me select a shift anymore? It lets me do work but it won’t allow me to just do a shift and when I get xp for doing individual tasks it doesn’t push me forward in my career.

I'm having the same problem too. It's been a few days and I'm sooo close to level 9 - but it won't let him work. None of the tasks raise the chef xp progress bar. Very frustrating. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Hope they fix this soon...
