How can I change a relationship story?

My sims are all stuck in the wrong settings and stories, and even if I choose different actions (friendship story but with rival actions, rival story but with flirtatious actions, etc.) that are different as opposed to the story, there is no way I can change it.

I wish I could change it because I met a nicer guy on there then the person I’m being flirtatious with and I can’t drop him. This is not a real person’s character just so you know!

I don't know about any other relationship but you can change any relation into a romantic one, just lead the story to level 4 and while talking, go to the flirty option, now you can propose the sim, from now they'll start to have a romantic relationship, hope it helped
